Bristol Lodekka, LDL6G with Eastern Coach Works body
seating 70 people

Built in 1957 for the Western National Omnibus Company as closed top buses and originally used on services from their Camborne and Trowbridge garages. They were two of an experimental batch of buses built by Bristol to the then newly authorised length of 30 feet for two axle double deckers. In 1972 both buses were converted to open top, given the names of “Admiral Boscawen” and “Sir Humphry Davy” and used on summer holiday services in Cornwall and Torbay. Both were later sold for further use on similar services in East Anglia. Photo © M. Fowler

seating 59 passengers
New in 1966 to Northampton Corporation Fleet number 258

Throughout the 1950’s & 60’s Northampton had a very standardised and conservative vehicle policy, buying only front-engined Daimler chassis with traditional rear entrance, open platform bodies. 258 was one of 61 similar vehicles purchased between 1959 and 1968. The Roe body includes teak framing and is one of the last buses built to this longstanding method of construction. Originally painted all over red with just a single central cream band 258 is now in the livery, with additional cream areas around the windows, used from the mid 1970’s.
