It is imperative that this unique service continues to operate. Acknowledged as the most spectacular ‘bus journey in Britain, it also contributes considerably to the trade of Minehead, Porlock, and Lynmouth in Summer months.

As Chair of the SW Coast Path Association, this bus service provides an essential service to those walking the first part of the coast path. The coast path is known to bring in £300 million into the local economy around the 630 miles of the coast and this section is one of the most walked, being the beginning. That equates to some £50 million into just this section, each year. As the organiser of the walking festival this service also provides the opportunity for linear walks and access to some great walking areas of Exmoor. For those that do not walk it shows off the beauty of the coastal strip far better than being stuck in a car. We have a video created by the ENPA on the http://www.visit-exmoor.co.uk website which promotes the service and the scenery through which it travels. It is also promoted on the http://www.exploremoor.co.uk website and is part of the linear walks downloadable from that site. The ENPA has a commitment for the National Park to becoming “carbon neutral” by 2025 to help tackle climate change. Reducing the opportunities to leave the car behind goes in the face of this commitment. This service is well used so I am surprised it does not cover its costs. Cutting this service would have a real detrimental effect on tourism in Exmoor, which is already struggling in this financial climate. If local businesses are expected to keep paying their rates and other overheads, then reducing their potential customer base seems most short-sighted.
